You Know What They Say: When You Have Peaches and Sour Cream
Monday 08.20.07Make coffeecake!
Saturday we were invited to a friend’s house with a number of other folks to engage in some end-of-summer-ice-cream chowdown. Our only duty: bring a topping. That morning at Costco I picked up some peaches: I know – why didn’t I buy local? Because I had a coupon for fresh produce that I needed/wanted to use, and because they smelled yummy. The idealistic side of me said, “Let’s grill these and take them and how cool will we be?” The realistic side said, with thirty minutes before we were supposed to go: “Little A has been screaming most of the day. JJ has been having emotional meltdowns. And Hubby may tape himself up in a box to be shipped to Abu Dhabi just to get away from all of us. Just. Bake. Cookies.”
So I did. But what to do with the box of peaches?
On Sunday at lunch I warmed up some homemade Chicken Taquitos that were a dinner co-op meal. I laid out condiments of sour cream and salsa: the maker of the taquitos said that guac was really yummy with them and gave a recipe, but I’m not a maker of green goo. Hubby commented on the fact that the sour cream we were using was not the sour cream she supplied (he picked up the meals for me – we were out of town during the swap): I told him that this sour cream was older and needed to be used up.
So, what to do with the rest of the sour cream?
Put “peaches and sour cream” into Google recipes. Find a recipe for coffeecake. Bake it. Make the house smell yummy and the belly of the Hubby happy.
It’s a good life.
Glad to have been the inspiration for such a yummy dessert. I think I feel an inspiration of my own coming on…
Yay: a comment from my taquito maker! And what yummy taquitos they are. Hubby made yummy noises while eating them, and I told him, “Of course they’re good: they’re from Jenn!” Every month: mmmm.
