Have you ever gotten one of those seed packets of mixed herbs – chives, basil, cilantro, parsley – and as the little seedlings begin to sprout, you get excited, but you’re not exactly sure for what?  “Well, something’s growing.  It’s green!  It’s a plant!  But I don’t know whether we’ll be making Mexican or Italian anytime soon.”  That’s how it is with JJ’s words:  they’re definitely words, but we don’t know if we’re applauding because he wants a cup, a circle, or a cookie.  But applause is present always.

One word he has been saying for quite some time is KEYKEY which is usually kitty except when it’s fishy or puppy.  This weekend he got to say a lot of KEYKEY because beloved Aunt Heather came to visit and brought her new baby Sir Vincent Wallace.

Aw, isn’t he tender?  JJ was in heaven:  following him around, petting very carefully, pulling on his tail only once – just to see what would happen it think or else trying to straighten it out (anal boy that he is).  He giggled hysterically when he got to hold the leash, and then he preferred simply to drag the leash around sans Vinnie – methinks I know of a great stocking stuffer.

Man, does this boy love dogs.  He loves all animals, but puppies in particular.  When we had next door neighbors (anybody wanna buy a house?  Anybody?  Bueller?), Hubby and I became numb to the constant barking of their dogs.  But not the Little Man:  he’d barrel across the room like the ice cream truck was coming, throw himself against the window, and strain to catch a glimpse of the KEYKEYS!!!

How can you say no to a face like that?  I don’t need to shake the magic 8 ball:  dog ownership is in our future.  The question is:  how long can we hold out?
